Abstract

Herbal medicines have been used for centuries across various cultures to treat a wide range of illnesses. In recent years, growing research supports the bioactive properties of medicinal plants, including antibacterial, antioxidants, antiviral, anticancer, and antimicrobial activities. This review focuses on seven common endogenous Omani plants—Rumex vesicarius (Humeidh), Pteropyrum scoparium (Sidaf), Haplophyllum tuberculatum (Sazab or Sinan al-Tais), Portulaca oleracea (Baqla or Rjla/Purslane), Fagonia indica (Al-Shukaa), Dodonaea viscosa (Shatt), and Prosopis cineraria (Al Ghaf)—and evaluates their antioxidant and phytochemical properties in the context of chronic disease prevention. The findings highlight the potential of these plants as natural alternatives for managing chronic health conditions.
